Your Favorite Must Read Books Will Soon be in Theaters Everywhere!

Do you love or hate it when your favorite book hits the big screen? I admit, when I see a book I love as a movie I tend to like the book better. For this reason, I always try to read a “must read” book before seeing it in the theater. This way, I can have fun comparing the must read story using my own images. Seeing the movie first puts pictures in my head; I would rather see if my own thoughts are similar or totally different in the film!

On the Today Show this morning, BuzzFeed’s Isaac Fitzgerald shared his guide to must read books set to hit theaters in the coming months. Some of the books are for adults (hey, parents and teachers deserve some fun too!) and some are for kids. Here is the clip:

In case you can’t view the video, here are the must read books with a brief synopsis of each:

Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. WONDER begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.

In a world where bullying among young people is an epidemic, this is a refreshing new narrative full of heart and hope. R.J. Palacio has called her debut novel “a meditation on kindness.” Indeed, every reader will come away with a greater appreciation for the simple courage of friendship. Auggie is a hero to root for, a diamond in the rough who proves that you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.

ir?t=fabulous0ce 20&l=li2&o=1&a=0345807294The Circle: When Mae Holland is hired to work for the Circle, the world’s most powerful internet company, she feels she’s been given the opportunity of a lifetime. The Circle links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system. This results in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. As Mae tours the open-plan office spaces, the towering glass dining facilities, the cozy dorms for those who spend nights at work, she is thrilled with the company’s modernity and activity.

There are parties that last through the night, famous musicians playing on the lawn, athletic activities and clubs and brunches, and even an aquarium of rare fish. Mae can’t believe her luck, her great fortune to work for the most influential company in the world. This is even as life beyond the campus grows distant, even as a strange encounter with a colleague leaves her shaken, even as her role at the Circle becomes increasingly public. What begins as the captivating story of one woman’s ambition and idealism soon becomes a heart-racing novel of suspense, raising questions about memory, history, privacy, democracy, and the limits of human knowledge.

The Gunslinger introduces readers to one of Stephen King’s most powerful creations, Roland of Gilead: The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with a boy named Jake.

Inspired in part by the Robert Browning narrative poem, “Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came,” The Gunslinger is “a compelling whirlpool of a story that draws one irretrievable to its center” (Milwaukee Sentinel). It is “brilliant and fresh…and will leave you panting for more” (Booklist).
