UPDATED 3/14 TO ADD MORE RESOURCES!
It’s almost Pi Day (I know some wish it were Pie Day but hey, you can always celebrate Pi with Pie! :)) This “holiday” is observed on March 14 because of the date’s representation as 3/14 in month/day date format. This representation adheres to the commonly used approximation of 3.14 for π. Here’s a fun video you can show to your children or class (who recognizes Winnie?? 🙂 ):
You can also share Pi Day with your students and children with these great activities:
Pie Problems FREEBIE – This FREE download contains 5 fun pie-themed word problems that require students to find circumference and area! Have your students practice critical thinking as well as circumference and area in the context of fun, Pi-Day themed problems!
Edible Centers (Grades 3-6) – $$ – This activity reviews circumference, radius, and diameter using a four center rotation. In each center the students are provided with round edible items to measure (and then eat). The file includes activity pages and center cards complete with instructions. ENJOY!
