My 10 year old son is about the biggest Lego fan in the world (yes, I know many of you may disagree with me and claim that your child is an even bigger one, but if saw my son’s room you might just change your mind) and has been since he was about 3. He has been able to fully assemble sets by himself before age 5, and by age 7 was able to build sets claiming to be for 16+ with no help (other than the occasional shout of “Mom! I can’t find the piece I need!”
. He wants to be an architect and eventually a Lego engineer when he grows up.
Enter my 7 year old daughter. Since the day she was born she has wanted to do everything my son does, so imagine his dismay when she declared that “Legos are for BOYS!” Of course I had just missed the boat on the few “girl” sets that Lego had put out, and I wasn’t about to cough up what some people were asking for them on Ebay, so I let her go back to her own interests (although I do admit, as a Lego lover, and former tomboy myself, I was slightly disappointed and wondered where this girly-girly had come from
).
So, imagine my delight when my son told me that he discovered (on one of the Lego sites that he stalks for new product announcements) that Lego would be introducing a new line just for girls! I waited anxiously, and when I finally saw the new kits I knew my daughter would be in heaven! My only complaint is that they didn’t launch them before the holidays, especially since my daughter’s birthday is in November so doesn’t have any big presents due for awhile! Well, she now has something to save her money for.
